ROME WITH NAPLES/AMALFI COAST AND CROATIA ( 12 DAYS/11 NIGHTS )
ITINERARY :
Day 1: Arrive Rome
Arrive Rome, the Eternal City. Very few places in the world where you can find 2.500 year old ancient monuments sitting in the midst of a modern and vibrant capital City, making Rome eternally unique. Dinner and Overnight in Rome.
Day 2: Rome
Visit the Vatican City – world’s smallest country.
Vatican Museum to see Michelangelo’s Frescoes, the Last Judgement, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica – an Italian Renaissance church and an important pilgrimage site. It is one of the largest churches in the world.
In Rome, one would drive through the amazing historical sights, Tiber River – third longest river in Italy, Roman Forum – a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings. At the centre of the city of Rome, Circus Maximus – an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium and mass entertainment venue, it was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire, Piazza Venezia – the central hub of Rome and Trevi Fountain – the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world.
Further one visits Colosseum – Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. It is an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and is listed as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Dinner and Overnight in Rome.
Day 3: Rome/Capri/Naples ( 220 KMS )
Today we drive through Naples – the third largest city in Italy behind Rome and Milan and is located on the western coast of Italy facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, from Naples we board a ferry and proceed to Capri Island- an island in Italy’s Bay of Naples and is known for its rugged landscapes. Upon arrival visit the Blue Grotto or White Grotto – a sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri. Reflected sunlight makes the cave appear to be lit from inside with shades of blue. Dinner and Overnight in Naples.
Day 4: Naples/Amalfi Coast/Naples
Visit Pompeii, a UNESCO protected World heritage, a vast aracheological area would be the best way to witness the daily life of the ancient Romans.
Optional visit to Mount Vesuvius, the volcanic mountain ( last eruption was in 1944 ) near Naples which destroyed the city of Pompeii and other towns and villages nearby.
Then proceed to enjoy an excellent view of the panoramic views of Sorrento and of the “Madonnina” of Positano with a quick photo-stop. Dinner and Overnight in Naples.
Day 5: Naples/Amalfi Coast/Bari Overnight Ferry ( 360 KMS )
If Mount Vesuvius is visited the day earlier, one can make stops on the Amalfi Coast to the towns of Amalfi, Rovello, Minori and Salerno. Drive to Bari on the Eastern Coast of Italy to board an overnight Ferry to Dubrovnik. The Ferry departs laste around 10 PM. Dinnner and Overnight on the Ferry.
Day 6: Arrive Dubrovnik
Arrive Dubrovnik early in the morning around 08:00 AM.
Explore Dubrovnik’s Old Town exploring Game of Thrones shooting locations to see the sights of King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms.
Onofrio’s Fountain- a Circular springwater fountain built in 1438 & decorated with ornate, carved-stone masks, Franciscan Monastery- one of the finest features of Dubrovnik’s architecture, Orlando’s Column- it features armoured knight Orlando who according to the legend saved Dubrovnik from a 15 month long Saracen siege. Bell Tower- an important public and communal structures of the Renaissance features. Rector’s Palace- that used to serve as the seat of the Rector, Church of St Blaise- One of the most beautiful sacral buildings in Dubrovnik, Fort Revelin and Minceta Tower.
Later one visits Fort Lovrijenac – an 11th-century castle perched high above the sea, Blackwater Bay- which is featured in battle scenes of Game of Thrones, in the evening Sail on the same Karaka ship used in filming of Game of Thrones and the view of King’s landing from the sea side.Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.
Day 7: Dubrovnik/Ston/Split ( 250 KMS )
Drive to Split – En route we drive through Ston town, famous for its walls, it is the longest defensive structure in Europe; they are sometimes referred to as the ‘European Walls of China’.
Upon arrival a walking city tour of Split. One see’s the City Hall- Sometimes referred to as the Communal Palace, Fish Market- one of the central points of the city life is called as Peskarija, Statue of medieval Croatian bishop Gregory of Nin, the Golden Gate- 4th-century Roman stone entryway to Diocletian’s Palace, The clock tower, later we visit the Cathedral of Saint Domnius – locally known as the Sveti Dujam is the Catholic cathedral in Split. Further explore Game of Thrones shooting locations which includes, Diocletian’s Palace- where the slaves conspired with the Unsullied Army to overthrow the masters, and Klis Fortress- where Daenerys Targaryen launched an attack on the mountaintop city of Meereen. Dinner and Overnight in Split.
Day 8: Split
Today enjoy flickering lights of the Blue Cave on Biševo Island. Later drive through the picturesque village of Komiža on Vis Island, where the locals are proud of their fishermen’s history. Later we explore Hvar town. We see Fortica Fortress- Spanish fortress in Hvar, Hvar Cathedral- a Roman Catholic cathedral in the town, a historic Bishop’s Palace. Dinner and Overnight in Split.
Day 9: Split/Zadar ( 150 KMS )
In the afternoon proceed to Zadar-– a city on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, which is known for the Roman and Venetian ruins, also for the unique modern wonders. Upon arrival we explore Zadar city, we see the Forum square – a municipal square from the Roman era, St Donatus Church – built in the 9th century, this church is the largest Pre-Romanesque building in Croatia, Port Marina- situated in the central part of the Adriatic coast and right in the centre of Zadar and Roman City Walls – These walls allowed the city to retain its independence and meant that it was never captured by the Turks. Later we visit Zadar’s incredible Sea Organ – an architectural sound art object which plays music by way of sea waves and Sun Salutation – It consists of a 22-meter diameter circle, with photovoltaic solar modules underneath.Dinner and overnight in Zadar.
Day 10: Zadar/Plitvice National Park/Zagreb ( 280 KMS )
Today proceed to Plitvice National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to 16 lakes connected by a series of waterfalls and surrounded by close-packed woodland. Upon arrival we enjoy the sight of thousands of sparkling water falls, clean pure air, the great Splashier and idyllically boat ride on Lake Kozjak. Later we take a walk on one of 18km marked trails. Drive to Zagreb. Dinner and overnight in Zagreb.
Day 11: Zagreb
E xplore Zagreb city, we walk through the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) – the oldest part of Zagreb which has a splendid labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets and wonderful buildings. Here we see St. Mark’s church with its multi-coloured tile roof bearing the coats of arms of Croatia, Croatian Parliament building- located within St Mark’s square and next to the popular St Mark’s church, the Baroque church of St. Catherine, and the Cathedral of St. Stephen – also known as Zagreb Cathedral and it is the tallest cathedral in Croatia. Later take a stroll through Zagreb’s main open-air farmers’ market – Dolac Market, then we walk through the Lower Town (Donji Grad) – Zagreb’s busy city centre. Here we see, Statue of Ban Jelacic – the Ban of Croatia who is remembered for his military campaigns during the Revolutions of 1848, National Theatre- a theatre, opera and ballet house, and the University of Zagreb- one of Croatia’s oldest institutions. Later we visit Mirogoj Cemetery – One of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe, it looks more like an art gallery than a cemetery and was designed by famous architect Hermann Bollé in 1876, and Maksimir – largest and oldest public park in Zagreb which is designed in the style of an old English garden. Dinner and overnight in Zagreb.
Day 12: Zagreb
In time transfer to the Airport to board flight back home.
